The Luxe- Review

"Welcome to Manhattan 1899, where people fear scandal more than disease". I think you know what this book is about, scandal. Lots and lots of it. I found this book at a used book store for $1 so I thought, why not?

I am not a big fan of scandal, but this book was entertaining enough. I will read the sequel, but I am not sure if I am going to continue reading the series. It is well written and the drama makes it hard to put it down, but scandal isn't really my thing.

I could barely watch Pretty Little Liars or Gossip Girl after one episode, but If you are a fan of those 2, I think you would be thrilled to know this book is this, in the 1800's. It has a antique and vintage feel to it. Plus there is lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of romance. This is sure to entertain you.

Overall, this book was an okay read. The ending is a cliffhanger, so I have no choice to read the second book. It was fun while it lasted, but there are a lot better books to read (for me) .

Take A Bow by Elizabeth Eulberg Review

In the summer I usually read more than I ever do in the school year, because I just have more time on my hands. I went to the library to get the sequel to another book I was reading, but when I found out they didn't have it, I picked this up instead. Turns out I liked this book a lot better than the other book and finished it in less than 24 hours.

Take A Bow is a story written by Elizabeth Eulberg and it is about a prestigious art school. It is told from the point of view of 4 different characters, who although are friends have very different goals in life. Emme is probably the protagonist in the story, she is a songwriter who never gets put in the spotlight. Sophie, Emmes so called best friend who always seems to be using her (She sings Emmes songs) , although Emme refuses to admit it. Ethan, who is in Emmes band and always is a nervous wreck and Carter who is a child star and has his passion elsewhere. All 4 of these characters see life very differently, from Emme who always sees  the best in people to Sophie who always finds some way to use people.

I think the best part of this book is the relationship between all the characters, it is clear they all have very different relationships with each other from dating, crushes, hating or friends. The book is developing the relationships between them or changing them and realizing who is true and who is just in it for themselves.

I think this book is called Take A Bow because some people (Like Emme) deserve appreciation but never think about themselves. Instead they always find time to think about others, even when it is them that deserve to take the bow. Even when Emme succeeds she never takes time for herself.  Everyday is an audition and its important to make decisions that you won't regret later on.

Overall, I loved this book. It was so thoughtful and I couldn't put it down! I would recommend it to people (like me) who are going to an arts school or people that have a passion for something. I would also recommend it to people who liked High School Musical or Fame. I was so surprised by how fantastic this book was!!!! Probably the fastest I have read something in years!!!! Standing Ovation!!!

The Amazing Spiderman Review

The Amazing Spiderman was easily one of the most anticipated films on 2012, from having some of the biggest most talked about actors in it (Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen) to the fact that they are re-doing the Spidermans after a short 4 years. The Amazing Spiderman was destined to be a success. But I guess, beauty is in the eye o the beholder.

The 2 leads: Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield.

The movie starts out with the young Peter Parker playing hide and go seek with his parents. He is looking for his parents and rush into his parents study. He notices that his parents papers are scattered all around and they come out and rush him out. This is the beginning of Spidermans very secretive past. If you are looking for more on his past, although it hints in a lot on the trailer, there isn't much about the past in the movie, I would advice you to wait for The Amazing Spiderman 2.

I have to applaud the acting in this movie. Andrew Garfield did a great job in my opinion. Although some may say he was too "Cool" for the role, I think he did a great job making the character his own. I think he also did capture some of the dark side of Spiderman with his acting. I was impressed. Another thing that impressed me was the amazing chemistry between him and his co star Emma Stone. Emma Stone played Gwen Stacy, the chef police officer's daughter. This sort of adds the whole "Romeo and Juliet" component to the story. Emma Stone did a great job playing Gwen, I think she really made the character stand on her own. I also was very impressed with Martin Sheen's performance as Peter's uncle. As usual Stan Lee's Cameo was hilarious and probably the best one yet.

I know some people thought this movie was slow, I agree. But I think it being slow was necessary to give the plot depth and to introduce the new characters. I think it was also meant to build on the past and the questions.

On comparing this to the old movie, I think that if you are looking for a totally different plot, you have come to the wrong place. The villain in this movie is very, very similar to the one in the first spiderman. Almost all the components of the villain were the same, expect for the current villain was a lizard. Peter Parker is also a whole different person in this one. I think that this movie had more emotional depth than the original and bring more life into the actual characters lives.

I think that the stunts in this movie were really cool, and I liked how it took longer for him to develop his powers, whereas in the original he just got used to them as soon as he got them.

I was very impressed with the 3D in this movie. It was probably one of the best 3D movies of the year. Everything popped out at you like it was actually meant to be in 3D, and they used the 3D to enhance the experience. They used different angles to make things really pop out and even if you didn't see it in 3D, you could tell that it was intended to be in 3D.

Overall, I liked it. I know how mixed the reviews were for this movie, but I think it was a refreshing twist and change to the original spiderman and I would certainly watch it again. Although the story lacked a bit, I still enjoyed the movie a lot and I would recommend it. But again, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. A-

Chloë Grace Moretz is the new face of Aéropostale!

Last week, Aeropostale announced that they have a new celebrity ambassador, Chloe Grace Moretz! I know her from her outstanding performance in Hugo but you may remember  her from her performance in Diary Of A Wimpy Kid or 500 days of summer. She is an outstanding actress and she will appear in plenty of other films! Her style is very quirky so I am curious how aeropostale (a casual brand) will change their line of clothing to suit her taste. Congrats!

Owl City- Maybe I'm Dreaming Review ( Track by Track)

Owl City's ability to create his own genre, is astounding. Anyone can agree on me with that, with his creative lyrics to his cool beats, Owl City is a one man success. The reason why I am so hooked on his music, is because no matter how many times I listen to a song, there is always something new to discover if its hidden wit or insightful lyrics. Owl City presents hope, something we all need.

I decided to check onto one of his earlier albums, before Fireflies became a huge success. Maybe I'm Dreaming exceeded my expectations by a million percent. Its his debut album and it just may be his best.

1. On The Wing: This song was released onto his other album Ocean Eyes. It is a very relaxing song, that just makes you want to sway. This song makes me feel like exploring and being in peace.

2. Rainbow Veins: This is one of my favourite songs. It is about how someones heart has  " A lack of colour" . He wants to help this person by blending up a rainbow and shooting it through their veins. This song is a lot more than that, but that is why it is called "Rainbow Veins". This is a must listen.

3. Super Honeymoon: This is a story about him meeting a rich girl and going on a super honeymoon with her. It is unlike his other songs on the album.

4. The Saltwater Room: This song was also re-released on his Ocean Eyes album but with several changes. I do like this one better. It is a romantic song.

5. Early Birdie: This song is different from his other songs on the album, I really like it. Owl City talks a lot about the sky, and this song is also about exploration.

6. Air Traffic: I think this is my favourite song on the album. I don't know, it just has the sense of astonishment and achievement. It reminds me a little bit of the book Airborn (Kenneth Oppel)  . It just has the ability to make you happy. Also the other vocals really add to the song.

7. The Technicolor Phase: " I am the red in the rose, the flowers on the blankets on your bedroom floor" are the opening lyrics of the song. This song talks about colours and rainbows and how they relate to this persons life. I really like this song, it is very soothing and relaxing, but makes you think.

8. Sky Diver: Another song about the sky. Its not one of my favourite but it still adds to the album. Its about flying and going in the air. (SKY DIVING)

9. Dear Vianna: Another very optimistic song. This describes the surroundings in vivid detail. If you are in a bad mood, listen to this song, it will for sure make your spirits rise!

10. Ill meet you there: This song is also very soothing and relaxing. It is also very dreamy.

11. This Is The Future: Another one of my favourites! This song is saying to wake up and realize that this is the future we aren't alone. I LOVE THIS SONG.

12. West Coast Friendship: Okay, hands down this is the best, best, best song on the album. It is just so upbeat and random!!! I am always dancing and singing along every time this song comes on. If you were to get one song from this album, get this one. Its so catchy and just... happy!

Overall this album is fantastic and great for anyone who likes electronic music. Also if you enjoyed Ocean Eyes and All Things Bright and Beautiful, you will love this!!!

People Like Us- Review

People Like Us isn't just another star studded film, its not a cheesy romantic. People Like Us is so much more than that, this movie packs in life lessons, family and laughs in 2 hours and leaves the audience in the midst of tears.

Chris Pine stars as the main character, who is in major debt and needs money. After his father dies, he is left with $150,000- to deliver to someone he has never met- his sister (played by Elizabeth Banks). One problem-he doesn't have the guts to tell his sister that he is her brother. The 2 develop a strong friendship and the guilt just keeps on piling up....

I really liked the characters in this movie- they weren't stereotypical at all. They all were there in the story for a reason, not just thrown into it. All the actors played their roles convincingly and I was very impressed with Michael Hall D'Addario's performance.

People Like Us had a really good story to it as well, the plot flowed smoothly and all the events were real, no one would be shaking their head that these events wouldn't actually happen ( but of corse they were dramatized). This movie is also fairly appropriate  ( although there is still mild swearing, it is still a good family movie).

Overall I was blown away by People Like Us. I expected less, a lot less but I got a really well rounded movie filled with emotion, and story. I would recommend for everyone. B+

The Words- September 2012

When I was watching the movie "People like us" I saw the trailer for a movie called "The Words" starring Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Dennis Quad. This movie is about an author that steals the words of another man. This movie looks simply amazing and I cannot wait until September 7th when I get to see it.

Are you excited for The Words?

Brave- Review

(SHORT REVEW)

Brave is the type of movie that would appeal to any type of audience, from very young kids to very elder and old people. This movie exceeded to its expectations in so many different ways.

The movie Brave is about a girl that is a princess, however she doesn't want to be one. She prefers to shoot bows and arrows instead of being graceful, one day she gets led and encounters a witch. The witch then tries to perform a spell to change her fate. The spell goes horribly wrong and she then rushes to fix it as soon as possible.

Overall, I loved this movie. I can't really point out anything I didn't like except for the spell, I think that the spell part fit into the movie in a weird way, I wasn't expecting it no, but it just didn't feel right for me. Did you feel the same way about that part?

I think the best things in the movie were the animation and the story. I loved the animation, it is just some of the best animation and it is just stunning ( Watch  the trailer and see). The story has a lot of good lessons in it and kids will be able to learn proper things from it. The girl is the leader and the saviour and I think this is a really good message that girls shouldn't just sit around and wait for their prince charming, they should live their life!!! A-
